Trooper trial halted after assault in courtroom

A state trooper on trial  for sexual conduct with a child was assaulted Thursday morning just as the jury was prepared to announce his fate.Trooper Gregory Vrooman of Nobleboro, was taken from the courthouse by ambulance ater being assaulted by a member of the audience.The attacker was arrested. Vrooman, a 24-year police veteran, is being tried on charges of unlawful sexual touching, unlawful sexual contact and tampering with a witness.  He has been on unpaid administrative leave since he was arrested in Nov. 2010.  Additional information will be posted as it becmes available..
